The Witches Rede of Chivalry

In so far as the Craft of the Wise is the most ancient and most honorable creed of humankind, it behooves all who are witches to act in ways that give respect to the old Gods, to their sisters and brothers of the craft, and to themselves.

Therefore be it noted that:

  • Chivalry is a high code of honor wich is of the the most ancient pagan origin, and must be lived by all who follow the old way.
  • It must be kenned that thoughts and intent put forth on this middle-earth will wax strong in other worlds beyond, and return… bringing into creation, on this world, that which had been sent forth.  Thus, one should exercise discipline, for “as ye do plant, so shall ye harvest.”
  • It is only by preparing our minds to be Gods that we can ultimately attain Godhead.
  • “This above all… To thine own self be true.”
  • A witch’s word must have the validity of a signed and witness oath.  Thus, give thy word sparingly, but adhere to it like iron.
  • Refrain from speaking ill of others, for not all truths of the matter may be known.
  • Pass not unverified words about another, for heresay is, in a large part, a thing of falsehood.
  • Be thou honest with others, and have them know that honesty is likewise expected of them.
  • The fury of the moment plays folly with the truth; to keep one’s head is a virtue.
  • Contemplate always the consequences of thine acts upon others others. Strive not to harm.
  • Diverse covens may well have diverse news on love between members and with others.  When in a coven, clan or grove as visitor or joined, one should discern quietly their practices and abide thereby.
  • Dignity, a gracious manner, and a good humor are much to be admired.
  • As a witch, thou hast power, and thy powers wax stronger as wisdom increases.  Exercise discretion in use thereof.
  • Courage and Honor endure forever.  Their echoes remain when the mountains have crumbled to dust.
  • Pledge friendship and fealty to those who so warrant.  Strengthen others of the brethren and they shall strengthen thee.
  • Thou shall not reveal the secrets of another witch or another coven.  Others have labored long and hard for them and cherish them as treasures.
  • Those who follow the mysteries should be above reproach in the eyes of the world.
  • The laws of the land should be obeyed whenever possible and within reason, for in they have mainly been chosen with wisdom.
  • Have pride in thyself, and seek perfection in body an in mind.  For the Lady has said, “How can thou honor another unless thou give honor to thyself first?”

The Law of Power

The power shall not be used to bring harm, to injure or control others.  But if the need rises, the power shall be used to protect you life or the lives of others.  The power is used only as need dictates. The power can be used for your own gain, as long as by doing so you harm none.  It is unwise to accept money for use of the power, for it quickly controls its taker.  Be not as those of other religions.  Use not the power for prideful gain, for such cheapens the mysteries of Wicca and Magick.  Ever remember that the power is the sacred gift of the Goddess and God, and should never be misused or abused.  And this is the Law of the Power.

Charge of the Goddess

Listen to the words from the great mother, who was of old called amongst men: Isis, Artemis, Astarte, Dione, Melusine, Aphrodite, Diana, Arionrhod, and by many other names.

Whenever you have need of anything, once a month and better it be when the moon is full or new.  Then shall ye assemble in some secret place and adore the spirit of Me, Queen of all Witcheries.

There shall ye assemble, who have not yet won my deepest secrets and are fain to learn all sorceries.  To these shall I teach that which is yet unknown.

Ye shall be free from slavery.  And as a sign that you be free, ye shall be naked in your rites.

You shall sing, feast, make music, and love all in my presence.  For mine is the ecstasy of the spirit, and mine is also Joy upon the Earth.  My law is love unto all beings.

Mine is the secret that opens upon the door of youth, and mine is the cup of the wine of life, the Cauldron of Cerridwen.   Which is the holy grail of immortality.

I am the gracious Goddess who gives the gift of youth unto the heart of mankind.

I give knowledge of the spirit eternal, and beyond death, I give peace and freedom and reunion with those who have gone before.

Nor do I demand aught of sacrifice, for behold I am the Mother of all things and my love is poured out upon the Earth.

Hear ye the words of the Goddess, She, in the dust whose feet are the host of heaven, whose body encircles the universe.

I am the beauty of the Green Earth, and the White Moon among the stars and the mystery of the waters.  I call unto thy soul: Arise and come unto me, for I am the Soul of Nature who gives life to the universe and from me all things return.

Beloved of all the Gods and men let my worship be in the heart.

Rejoice, for behold all acts of love and pleasure are my rituals.  Therefore, let there be beauty and strength, power and compassion, honor and humility, mirth and reference within you.  And you who think to seek me, know that your seeking and yearning will avail you not unless you know the mystery: If that which you seek you find not within yourself, you will never find it without.

For behold, I have been with you from the beginning, and I am that which is attained at the end of desire.
